[Support Request] Question on the Outbox with Private Messages

#1

Post by jim-fairfield »

Hello TPF Admin,

Again, thank you for helping me with reducing the size of pictures. Yesterday, I was able to work with pics just fine in doing some posts in the France folder.

Some other questions I have relate to Private Messages. The functions I need there are understandable to me, except for one -- the Outbox. I looked in the "How To" folder and did not see anything on this, but maybe I missed it. But in any case:

1. What is the purpose of the Outbox?

2. I created a private message to go to another Forum member yesterday, and it appears that the message got created, and now it sits in the Outbox. So is there something additional I need to do to get it to go to the intended recipient? Or did it already go? The word "Outbox" implies to me that any message in it is sitting in some special folder somewhere waiting to go out. Or is that a wrong interpretation?

Thanks for all your help.

@jim-fairfield,

The PM system uses the same terminology as traditional email (inbox/outbox/sent), but it functions slightly differently since the PMs never leave the forum’s server.

Outbox = sent to the recipient, recipient has not yet read it
Sent = sent to the recipient, recipient has read it

The reason it sits in the Outbox until the recipient reads it is because unlike traditional email, you can still edit it or delete it up until the point it’s read.
